All eyes would turn on Toronto today as the Gambia National U-20 team would mark their first appearance in the World Youth Championship currently underway in Canada.
The Darling Scorpions would take on the 2005 World U-17 champions, Mexico, today at 21.00 hours.
The team that arrived in Toronto last Monday, would once again play their first match in three Consecutive tournaments without the presence of their fans as 235 out of the 250 would-be fans were last week denied entry visas by the Canadian Embassy in Accra, Ghana.
Speaking to Pointsport yesterday, the President of the Gambia Football Association, Seedy MB Kinteh said that the team is in good shape and is ready to go out for the three points today.
He added that all the players that were suffering minor injury are fully recovered and set for the debut game today.
Mr. Kinteh pointed out that the only thing the boys are asking from the Gambian people is their continuous prayers and they are ready to do the hard job on the field.
It could be recalled that the Gambian fans missed the then U-17 team first appearance in the World championship in Peru in September 2005 against Brazil, which ended 3-1 in favour of the Gambia.
In the last African Youth Championship held in Congo earlier this year, the Gambian fans also missed the team first outing against Burkina Faso and again it was the Darling Scorpions that triumphed 2-0.
Captain Ousman Jallow and teammates would do their almost best today to reassure the fans from the unfair treatment netted on them by the Canadian authorities.
