Wednesday, October 18, 2006
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently short listed 200 players from the continent for the best player in the last 50 years award as part of activities marking its fiftieth anniversary in which no Gambian is included.

Despite producing talented players like Bri-Bri Njie, Solomon Jatta, George Gomez and Hassan Jallow to name a few in the sixties and Ebou Sillah, Jatto Ceesay, Seyfo Solly in the recent years the small African state were omitted from the list, The Confederation of African Football is organizing a voting system through its website inviting internet users to choose African best player in the last 50 years.

CAF has short listed 200 players who performed significantly on continental level in the last 50 years. The selection was made on the basis of national, regional and continental performance as well as FIFA World Cup and Olympic tournament.

Players can be selected from the list made available or add another name while taking into consideration the laid down criteria mentioned above. Each voter must explain in few lines the motives backing his or her choice. Only one player can be selected.
