Competent and reliable sources informed this paper yesterday afternoon that the Independent Electoral Commission has set January 25th, 2007 as the date for National Assembly elections while the Nominations are set for January 4th.

According to our sources, 48 constituencies are expected to be contested throughout the country.

The National Assembly elections come in the wake of the 22nd September presidential polls from which President Yahya Jammeh emerged victorious, winning 67% of the votes in a landslide.
