The Independent Electoral Commission, (IEC), will today Thursday, December 14 start the replacement of lost, destroyed or mutilated voters’ cards or the transfer of voting cards and this will end on Friday, 29th December, 2006.
According to a release issued by the commission, the exercise will take place at their regional offices countrywide with a fee of D50.00 (fifty dalasis) levied on any transferred or replaced card.
This exercise, the release states, is in accordance with section 35 sub-section 3 which states that ‘a registered voter whose voting card has been lost, stolen or destroyed shall, before applying for a transfer, apply for a replacement of his or her voting card’.
The commission will make inquiries on all applications and cards which will be either replaced or transferred if the applications are deem to be bona fide, the release concludes.
