Coach Antoine Hey has delayed his arrival to the country until his money is paid to his account by the Department of State for Youth, Sports & Religious Affairs, reports reaching Observer Sports desk have revealed.
The German was expected to land in the country on Tuesday to sign a formal contract with the Gambia Football Association-the beneficiary.
Reports monitored at Sports File revealed that coach Hey is reluctant to come to The Gambia until his outstanding three-month salary is paid to his account.
Coach Hey’s case has been the centre of controversy in the past week after the media reports that he had stepped down as the Scorpions' coach because he had not been paid of his salary. The news was later down-played by the Department of State for Youth, Sports & Religious who insisted that German Antoine Hey has not resigned, adding “the German is still the coach of the country's national football team”.
The 36-year-old German coach was appointed in September, as the Scorpions ended a three-year spell without a coach.
Meanwhile, an insider at the Gambia Football Association told Observer Sports that the Department of State for Youth, Sports & Religious is working tirelessly to settle Antoine Hey. “We are very optimistic that Hey will arrive soon because the sports Department is working hard to pay the amount to his account as soon as possible,” the source assured.
