The Sukuta zonal team have expressed their disappointment over the decision of the Organising Committee of the Zonal Football Championship, to fine the team for their alleged role in the brawl that ensued during their first match against Gunjur at the Brikama Mini-stadium.

In a letter addressed to the GFA Secretary-General, Jammeh Bojang, the defending champions claimed they were never responsible for the crowd trouble that forced the centre referee to abort the game before the regulation period expired.

According to the letter which was signed by Mr Buba Cham, Chairman of the Sukuta Zone, the Organising Committee, under the chairmanship of Alhagi Mass Axi Gye, should have given itself the opportunity to investigate the incident thoroughly before coming up with a final decision. “We are not apologising, neither will we appeal against the decision, but we just want to make it clear that Sukuta were punished for a crime they never committed”, the release stated.

The organising committee of the championship handed a D4, 000.00 fines to Sukuta in addition to forfeiting the three points and two goals to their opponent, Gunjur as punishment for the crowd trouble.
