The Department of State for Local Government and Lands, in collaboration with the Department of State for Finance and Economic Affairs and Interior has revealed the shifting of responsibilities for the collection of Car Park fees/ charges by Local Government authorities (councils) to the Gambia Police Force (GPF), with effect from January 2007.

According to a press release from the Department State for Local Government and Lands, this act is in response to numerous complaints against Area Council checkpoints collectors.

This, according to DosLG&L, is intended to facilitate the easy movement of people and goods, as well as address the long-pending complaints by operators in the Transit Trade.

Consequently, DosLG&L added, all commercial vehicle owners are informed that, henceforth all car park fees/charges by Local Government authorities will be collected by the Gambia Police Force, alongside the annual road tax and license paid by commercial vehicle owners.
