New Castle FC, recently, imaged champions of the Aji Awa Ceesay football tournament organised by Brufut Youth and Sports Committee.
In a well contested game, New Castle defeated Great Alliance FC by 2-1 in the final played at the Brufut Lower Basic School.
New Castle first opened the score in the 27th minute through Lamin Touray better known as 190, who capitalised on a wonderful pass from the midfield.
The first half ended 1-0 in favour of New Castle. But at the resumption of the second half, Great Alliance opted for the offensive.
Their efforts were rewarded in the 53rd minute with an equalising goal scored by Lamin Manku.
The equalising goal gave more zeal to the game as both teams tried to control the game from the midfield and launched some attacks.
In the 68th minute, Lamin Touray alias 190 netted the winning goal for New Castle, his second of the day.
At the end of the final, New Castle FC were awarded a giant trophy and a cash prize of D3000, while Great Alliance also received cash prize.
Speaking to Pointsport after the game, Seedy Ceesay, a native of Brufut residing in the UK and sponsor of the tournament said the final was postponed due to lack of sponsorship.
He added that he named the tournament after, Aji Awa Ceesay, his own child.
He revealed that Aji Awa Ceesay is suffering from a heart problem and could not attend the knockout.
