President Jammeh made Baby Scorpions’ trip possible

Sheikh Omar Faye, Secretary of State for Youths, Sports and Religious Affairs has commended President Yahya Jammeh for his intervention and assistance to the baby Scorpions, currently at the on-going African Youth Championship in Congo Brazzaville.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Observer, SoS Faye said that without President Jammeh’s intervention and assistance, the baby gallant Scorpions of The Gambia will have never had made it to the CAF Championship now taking place in Congo Brazzavillie.

According to him, President Jammeh personally ensured that the team and their supporters where airlifted from Banjul despite the huge cost of Visas impose by the authorities in Congo Brazzaville which amounted to some CFA 5M. He said this noble gesture demonstrates President Jammeh’s commitment and support not only to the team and fans, but to the very spirit of an Africanism which is behind the propose of these games.

He further added that some one hundred and six supporters including journalist where all successfully airlifted to Brazzaville by Slok Air through the personal intervention of President Jammeh. “ Prior to the departure of the team, President Jammeh gave them his blessings and advised them to be goodwill Ambassadors of this noble country” he said.

SoS Faye then took the opportunity to thank President Jammeh and on behalf of the team, supporters and the entire Gambian nation for this noble gesture without which it would not have been possible for the Baby Scorpions to take part in this years CAF Junior Championship.

He finally concluded by further praying for President Jammeh to continue to lead this country and to continue to promote the spirit of Pan-Africanism as epitomise by the current Championship taking place in Congo Brazzaville.
