Principal Magistrate B Y Camara of the Banjul Magistrates’ Court, on October 18, 2007, sentenced one Sanusi Jaiteh to a fine of D3000, indefault to serve nine months imprisonment. He was found guilty on charges of driving a motor vehicle without a road tax , licence and insurance, contrary to the Motor Traffick Act.
In his plea for motigation, Mr Jaiteh asked the court to tamper justice with mercy and be given the opportunity to regularise his vehicle’s documents.
In his judgement, Magistrate Camara said that the accused is a dangerous element in society, adding that the public need to be protected from such dangerous drivers. He noted that he is tempted not to send the accused to jail because of his young age, “but the crimes he commited is very serious”.
