Accountant Jailed

Principal Magistrate Moses Richards of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced Alieu Faye, former Accountant of the Stop-Step pharmacy to a three-year jail term without any option of fine.

He also ordered him to pay a compensation of D350,000 to the company, indefault to serve another two-year jail term. Both sentences would run consecutively.

Alieu Faye, was found guilty of stealing the sum of D547,547 from the pharmacy. The money was meant for the payment of May salaries of the company staff.

In his plea of mitigation before judgement was handed down, Counsel Antouman Gaye, begged the court to temper justice with mercy.  

He urged the court to take into consideration the accused’s age, noting that he is a 49-year-old married man with eight children.

Counsel Gaye finally begged the court to temper justice with mercy   as the accused Alieu Faye, was standing in the dock, looking silent and calm.

However,   Presiding Magistrate   finally convicted and sentenced Alieu Faye, to a three-year jail term and also ordered him to pay a compensation of D350,000 to the company, indefault to serve another two years in jail. Both sentences would run consecutively.  

Prosecutor Sergeant   870 Touray, stood in for the IGP in the judgement, while Counsel Antouman Gaye represented the accused.
