Alleged rapists get D 25,000 bail bond

One Tony Senghore and Momodou Lamin Secka, all residents of Kanifing South were recently granted a court bail in the sum of D25, 000, each by Principal Magistrate Moses Richards of the Kanifing   Magistrates’ Court.  

The duos are standing trial for alleged rape charge, contrary to the laws of The Gambia.

At the last sitting, Lawyer Edu Gomez, Counsel for the defendants applied for a court bail.

In response, Sgt 870 Touray of the Kanifing Prosecution Unit argued that the duo should be denied bail as the charge is a serious one.

According to him, if the accused persons are granted bail, they may do it again.

However, Principal Magistrate Mosses Richards granted the duo a court bail, with a Gambian surety, who must have a landed property.
