As Pa Jallow Retires

Malamin Jarju, better known as Captain Jarju, the Deputy Director of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), was on Monday, 29th October, appointed as the agency’s Director-General, this paper has been reliably informed.

Mr. Jarju took over from Pa Jallow, who was appointed in November last year as head of the agency.

His appointment comes in the wake of Pa Jallow’s reported voluntary retirement on medical grounds.

Malamin Jarju, 45, joined the then Gendarmerie in 1982 and later transferred to The Gambia National Army where he rose to the position of head of Military Intelligence Unit, a post he served in for many years before his appointment as deputy director of NIA in March this year.

Our sources could not however confirm whether there is any replacement in the position of deputy director.

In another development, Mr. Abdoulie Touray, Permanent Secretary No. 1 at the Department of State for Finance, has been relieved of his post as Permanent Secretary with immediate effect. Meanwhile no official reason has been put forward as to what is responsible for his removal, and no successor has been named at the time of going to press.

Meanwhile Mr Lamin Nyabally who was early this month removed as PS Works has been re-appointed as PS State Department of Fisheries.
