Gambia-Senegal: Viva L’Entente Cordiale

The final communiqué that emerged from the recently held two-day Gambia/Sénégal Joint Ministerial Meeting, has ushered in a new lease of life  in  relations  between the two countries.

In the context of the West African  sub-region, charcaterised by inherent conflicts  and wars, this agreement will inexorably help to bring peace and stability  to the region, especially  the Senegambia  area.

There is certainly good reason to celebrate such commitment, as the two countries have haved to endured a spate of troubled relations  in the past.

As history has illustrated, Senegambia emanated from the kind of political symbiosis that might not have been experienced in any other sub-region. Experts from both countries have established  reasonable and realistic long-term goals that are capable of re-inventing Senegambian  relations.

The final Communiqué expresses the strong will of the two Heads of State to design policy responses that will permit and address the recurrent problems between these two countries. There is hope for these two countries because of the enormous human resources they possess which include the determination of their people to work on crisis management and strengthen the relationship  between the two countries.

The re-invention of Senegambia is just at the corner, as the transition from crisis to hope matters a great deal.  Senegambia’s success will lead to a more decent and stable Africa in which human values and interests can flourish  for the betterment of the African continent.
