Following their dazzling performance in the just concluded African Youth Championship finals held in Congo Brazzaville and their subsequent qualification to the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2007 in Canada, the Darling Scorpions will soon know who will be their opponents in the FIFA prestigious football tournament when the official draw takes place on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex in Toronto, Canada.

At the official draw; once all of the twenty-four qualified countries are completed for the tournament - they will be divided into six pools of four countries. Each team on the pool will then play a round-robin of three games against their three counterparts to progress to the next stage of the competition.

The FIFA U-20 World Cup 2007 tournament will take place in six Canadian cities namely; Victoria , Edmonton , Burnaby , Toronto , Ottawa and Montreal. Twenty-two countries of the expected twenty-four nations have already qualified with the remaining two spots from CONCACAF group B - Costa Rica , St. Knitts and Nevis , Jamaica and Mexico - to be decided by late February in Mexico . The first two teams in this tie of four teams will automatically qualify for the tournament thus filling in the vacant two spots.

The four African representatives-Gambia, Congo, Zambia, and Nigeria have already joined Korea DPR, Japan, Korea Republic, Jordan , Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, New Zealand, Spain, Scotland, Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Portugal, USA, and Panama the celebrated youth championships which is scheduled to kickoff from June 30 to July 22, 2007.

Having emerged bronze medalist in the Congo finals in addition to bagging the golden boot and best goalkeeper awards along the way, will big names like Spain, Portugal and others intimidate the courageous Darling Scorpions?

“One can have all your big names but if one can do better jobs in the field and has the ability to score goals more than you, then it’s all over for you. That’s exactly what Gambia did to Brazil during the 2005 U-17 Championships in Peru and we have every chance of doing it again," Modou Bojang, a Gambian national living in Canada told Observer Sports.
