Dr Isatou Touray, Executive Director of Gamcotrap and Amie Bojang Sissoho, programme coordinator of Gamcotrap, recently returned from a series of networking trip in Nairobi, Kenya.

The two gender and women rights activists participated in the third feminist dialogue forum organised by International Group of Feminist Organisations and networks.

The theme for the dialogue was ‘Transforming Democracy: Feminist Vision and Strategies’, which was discussed within the context of the different realities of feminists around the world and the unjust systems that discriminate women. This included social exclusion of women, intolerance associated to female sexualities and reproductive and economic rights.

The delegation also attended the fifth Grantees Meeting, organised by Equality Now Partners in Grass roots Activism, to end female genital mutilation in Africa.

The objective of the meeting was to enable delegates share best practices and challenges in their work. The meeting ended with an appeal to Unicef offices around Africa to support grass roots organisations that have been in the struggle to end female genital mutilation.

It was argued at the meeting that no one strategy could eradicate female genital mutilation, thus, a holistic approach is necessary.

From Kenya, Dr Touray proceeded to The Netherlands, where she joined the Zero Tolerance Day, as one of the guest speakers. The day is celebrated on February 6 every year.

Meanwhile, the programme coordinator, proceeded on a study tour at the Tasaru Rescue Centre for Girls, in Narok District of Kenya, established by Agnes Pareyio, UN Women of the year for 2005.
