GPA lift Super Cup title

The Gambia league champions and flag bearers in CAF Club Champions League, Gambia Ports Authority on Saturday beat Hawks United in a fiercely-contested final to land the Super Cup title-marking the start of the 2007 league season.

Hawks unarguably made Ports Authority worked for the 4-2 victory on post-match spot-kick, after a fiery 1-1 scoreline in the regulation period.

A stalemate scoreline in the first interval saw Hawks United broke the deadlock on 47th minute with a blistering shot from Paul Jatta. However, the FA Cup giants’ celebration was short-lived by Dawda Janko’s brilliant leveller, just 10 minutes after.

Both sides went ahead to create some scoring chances which saw Ports Authority’s forward, Pa Modou Jagne, squandered a clear-cut chance on 82nd minutes after being set up by Sainey Nyassi.

At a levelled scoreline in full time, centre referee Modou Sowe took the game to a spot-kick where GPA prevailed winners.

Saturday’s final was graced by scores football enthusiasts, among were Col Lang Tombong Tamba, Chief of Defence Staff and First Vice President of The Gambia Fotball Association and Mr Ebou Joof, Permanent Secretary Department of State for Youth, Sports & Religious Affairs, who also presented the winners’ trophy.
