Tamsir Jallow, The Gambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom is now redeployed to the United Nations as the country’s new Permanent Representative to the world body.
He replaces Crispin Grey Johnson, who has been promoted to the post of Secretary of State.
Mr. Jallow started his diplomatic career in 2002 when he was appointed as The Gambia’s Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
He was briefly out from office, but later reinstated to the same position. Following the redeployment of High Commissioner Gibril Joof from the UK to Senegal last year, Mr. Jallow was elevated to the post of High Commissioner.
Mr. Jallow’s appointment to represent The Gambia at the world body has been described by analysts as a step in the right direction as he is vocal and also a strong member of the ruling APRC. In the early days of the July 22nd Revolution, he played an active part in mustering support for the then AFPRC and was among the founding fathers of the July 22nd Movement, thus becoming its first chairman.
Following the birth of the second Republic, Mr. Jallow was nominated into the National Assembly by President Jammeh and eventually became the Majority Leader from 1997 to 2002 during which he fiercely defended the government at all times.
