Observer Company, Gambia Armed Forces and Gamstar Insurance are among the twelve teams, out of the twenty-four sides, that have made it to the knockout stages of the National Inter-departmental Sports Association (NISA) football championships after a fiercely competed group matches.
Group A
Two wins from three group matches was enough for Immigration Department to emerge Group A winners on seven points.
Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), who drew 1-1 with Immigration in their weekend fixture, finished the first runner up on five points.
Group B
Kombo Beach ruled Group B after winning all their three matches with record margins. After 5-4 victory over GRTS in their first match, Kombo Beach went ahead to beat Gampost by the same scoreline before completing the group bout with a narrow 1-0 victory over Maerskline on Saturday.
Maerskline consolidated themselves with the runner up position on four points.
Group C
Medical Research Council and Kanifing Municipal Council crashed in Group C at the expense of Gambia Armed Forces and Social Security.
The heroic Soldiers completed on top of the group on six points while Social Security secured four points to finish second.
Group D
Like Kombo Beach, Nawec in Group D also beat the Gambia Police Forces 1-0 to continue their hundred per cent run in the tournament. Despite the defeat, the Police side who earlier won their first two group matches, finished on Nawec’s heels on six points.
Group E
The indomitable Observer side beat Africell Company 2-1 in their Sunday fixture to grab their second win in Group E.
The two emphatic wins in three matches saw Observer top the group on seven points.
Gamstar beat Gambia Ports Authority 1-0 in their final group match to finish hot on Observer’s heels on six points.
Group F
The final group in the competition will also be the final group to be decided. While Fire and Ambulance Services have been assured of place in the second round, GIA and Badala/Palm Beach will have to wait for the verdict of the pending appeal case that is currently before the organising committee.
Meanwhile, the second round matches will resume on Saturday, April 7.
