The Tourism and Culture Secretary of State Hon. Angela Colley has expressed her Department’s unreserved resolve to promote and develop regional tourism.
Speaking at a one-day meeting held recently in the Senegalese capital of Dakar, Secy Colley said: “Together with our brothers and sisters in this beautiful country of Senegal, we can collaborate in various areas of tourism development. Indeed this is in line with the resolutions past at the last AU Summit in The Gambia, of which the theme was regional integration.”
According to her , government is desirous to harness the full potential of the River Gambia and all the unique mix of attractions in the cultural domain as well as the rich tourism facilities, to make The Gambia an ideal holiday paradise and a business centre.
Further whetting the appetite of her audience, madam Colley highlighted that The Gambia is endowed with a wide range of products , but quick to add that ‘our people are the brightest jewels.
“The Gambian people are indeed very friendly and this genuine hospitality is manifested in various ways to the delight and satisfaction of our visitors,” he posited.
In concluding, the tourism and culture Secy note that her Department of State will continue to create the necessary environment for the lofty objectives of people-centred tourism to be achieved and ensure a sustained and warm welcome to guests who no doubt have plenty of reasons for a return visit.
The Director General of the Gambia Tourism Authority Mr Kaliba Senghore and the Gambia’s Ambassador to Senegal HE Gibril Joof also spoke at the high profile meeting.
The meeting was initiated by the Gambia Hotel Association with the chief goal of marketing The Gambia in the West African region in order to woo more potential holidaymakers to visit the tropical sunshine paradise of the Gambia.
