DA DUN Arts Exhibition in Taiwan

The 12th edition of DA DUN arts exhibition of Taichung City in Taiwan has commenced and the organisers are calling for entries while encouraging art works from The Gambia for the first time.

According to a press release from the Taiwanese Embassy in Banjul the purpose of the arts exhibition is among other things; to enhance international cultural exchange, manifest the characteristics of DA DUN culture, promote art appreciation in every day life and internationalisation of art.

The entry categories include, crafts, sculpture, digital art, photography, print making, water colour painting, oil painting, tempera colouring, seal engraving, calligraphy and water and ink wash painting.

The release further revealed that the first prize winners for each category (one each) shall received a monetary award of US$3,100, second for each category prize (one each) $2,000,third prize winners of each category (one each) shall receives $1,400 and also ‘fine works’ meaning if your work is accepted one can receive $300.

Meanwhile, trophies, certificates of merit and one permanent collection certificate would also be awarded to each of the best five winners.

Gambian artistes interested in participating in this generous competition from the friendly people of Taiwan can download the entry from (including the general Rules and Regulations from the web-site of the Taichung city cultural Affairs Bureau (htt://www.tccgc.gov.tw).
Participants can send in their art works to the Taiwanese Embassy along Radio Gambia Road, Kanifing who would finally submit them to Taiwan. The date line for the submission is on or about April 16th 2007.
