U-20 players cautioned

Players in the Gambia U-20 team have been urged to renew their commitment to their respective league clubs as the league season grows older.

Reports reaching Observer Sports desk have revealed that some of the players in the U-20 team have since halved their commitment to their league clubs because of  fear of sustaining an injury ahead of the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals in Canada this summer.
This assertion did not go down well with some league clubs who feel the U-20 players should put their clubs first before the national team, since the absence of league clubs will admittedly translate to no national team.

“It has come to our notice that most of the U-20 players are playing with two minds. Some of them hardly give all they have during the league games because they don’t want to sustain an injury. We also learnt that some of the players have received threats of possible expulsion from the U-20 team should they sustain an injury during the league matches. This is making the players extra cheerful in their bid to avoid injuries during league matches,” a member of the GFA Organising Committee who preferred anonymity told Observer Sports yesterday.

“This act must stop because the players are what they are today because of their league clubs. If there is no club then there will be no national team. So, the players must strive to give all what they have during the league matches. No one would wish to have an injury but players must also resolve to give their club the best of the best,” the insider said.
