North-West African Cricket Series: Gambia, Ghana, others progress to semis

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

The host Gambia, Morocco, Ghana and Nigeria have all landed a place in the semi finals stages of the on-going North-West African cricket series holding in Banjul.

Gambia’s progress was confirmed when their Group A counterparts, Mali, failed to beat Morocco in their Sunday’s fixture played at July 22 Square in Banjul.

Morocco handed Mali their second successive defeat by a 10 wickets in 34 over victory. The victory saw Morocco joined Gambia in the semis with both side levelled on points.

In Group B, Ghana defeated Sierra Leone by 168 runs on Sunday, to join Nigeria in the semis. It was Sierra Leone’s second successive defeats in two matches that equally saw them hang their gloves.

At the time of going to press, Nigeria were locking horns with Ghana at the MRC playground to decide the first and second runner up spots while Gambia were taking on North-African side Morocco.
