Sunday, May 20, 2007

Issa Hayatou, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given instructions to open up an enquiry towards the football associations and members of WAFU who met in Accra in order to have a clear understanding on the leadership crisis that has overshadowed the unity of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU).

In a letter sent to WAFU Chairman Jacques Anouma, CAF General Secretary Mustapha Fahmy stated that "Mr. Hayatou has given us instructions to open up an enquiry towards the football association’s members who met in Accra in order to have a clear understanding on the issue".
He added that: "The result of this enquiry will be submitted to CAF competent bodies and we will not hesitate to communicate to you the conclusions brought about".

It could be recalled that on April 14th 2007 a group of national football association and members of WAFU meet in Accra after calling a General Extraordinary and elective Assembly which was presided over by Mr. Seyi Memene CAF Vice President and was attended by Mr. Amadou Diakite, member of CAF and FIFA Executive Committee and Mr. Kabele Camara, member of CAF Executive committee and Mr. Amos Adamu, member of CAF and FIFA Executive committee in which Mr. Amos Adamu was elected as Chairman of WAFU.

While the legally elected chairman of WAFU Mr. Jacques Anouma whose mandate is expected to end in April 2008 is saying that the Accra meeting is a violation of WAFU Statues.
