The Secretary General of the Gambia Workers’ Confederation, Mr. Pa Modou K.B. Faal, was apparently an unhappy man yesterday when he told the industrial tribunal that the way and manner in which the lawyers approach the matters before the tribunal leave a lot to be desired.
According to Mr. Faal, the industrial tribunal is a platform where issues of contention in relation to terms and conditions of work should be ironed out in an amicable and expeditious manner but that any time lawyers are involved in any case, that matter would be inordinately delayed without any end in sight. He pointed out that the overriding interest of the confederation is to see to it that workers and providers of employment come to terms in an amicable and speedy fashion.
To Mr. Faal, if the labour laws are any guide, industrial matters are no go areas for lawyers.
‘They are restricted by labour laws to involve in industrial matters,’ Mr. Faal told the tribunal chaired by magistrate Buba Jawo.
