U-20 final list released ...Four key players crash out

Thursday, May 31, 2007

Skipper Ken Malamin Jammeh, versatile midfielder, Saja Leigh, solid defender, Demba Sanyang and mesmeric Habib Kunta have all been dropped as coach Peter Bonu Johnson selected his final list of players for the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals to be hosted in Canada next month.

Paul Jatta of Hawks, Pa Modou Ngum of Wallidan, Abdouraman Dampha of Gambia Ports Authority are all new faces included in the squad that is admittedly dominated by players from the league defending champions, Gambia Ports Authority. Wallidan’s Kebba Bah, who is reported to be one of Bonu’s favourite players has also made the final list.  While skipper Jammeh’s exclusion in the team is attributed to the severed ankle injury he is currently nursing, others are said to have owed theirs to a drop-performance.

Observer Sports visited Bonu Johnson at his Paradise Suites Hotel camp yesterday to retrieve the final list, but the coach was adamant, saying: “I cannot make the list available to the press when the football association secretariat is yet to receive its copy.”
