The transfer window in the GFA First Division league will be declared open soon after Armed Forces and Gambia Ports Authority play-off match on Wednesday. Alhagi Mass Axi Gye, First Vice President of the Gambia Football Association, told Observer Sports yesterday.
Wednesday’s match between joint fourth position holders, Armed Forces and Gambia Ports Authority, will mark the last fixture in the first-round and those players who wish to switch clubs can do so before the window would is declared closed shortly before the start of the second round in a fortnight.
Elaborating on circumstances surrounding the transfer issue, Axi Gye said: “The window will be opened immediately after Armed Forces and Ports Authority match on Wednesday and it will be closed shortly before the start of the second round.”
He added that players who wish to transfer to another club could only do so if they had not played for their former club during the first-round matches. According to him, a player will not be allowed to play for two different clubs in the same season.
“A player can transfer to another club and play in the second round if the player has not played for his former club in the first round. But once you play for your club in the first-round, you cannot play for another club even if you secure your transfer,” he explained.
