The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) on Saturday, May 5, held its ninth Sports Banquet and Award Ceremony at the Sun Beach Hotel in Bakau.
The ceremony which attracted scores of sports pundits saw several Gambian sports personalities being conferred with different awards ranging from the Merit list of Awards to Hall Of Fame Awards.
Among the awardees were The Gambia’s U-20 head coach, Peter Bonu Johnson who was conferred with the GNOC President Award for his tireless contribution to the development of Gambian sports. The Most Outstanding Sports Personality Award went to Alhagi Doudou Joof, Secretary-General of the Gambia Athletics Association (GAA).
Mrs. Aminata Sowe, a crafted basketballer in the late 60s, Mrs. Haddy Sillah-Njie, a basketballer and athlete in her days and Mr. Dawda Jallow, 400m record holder, were also decorated with the Hall of Fame Awards.
Mrs. Elizabeth Bahoum, Pa William Ndure, a footballer in the early 60s and Haddy Sillah Njie, a basketballer and athlete who now works at the National Sports Council, also received the Merit List Award.
Alhagi Abou Dandeh Njie, President of the Gambia National Olympic Committee was also conferred with the IOC and GNOC Award for the Promotion of Sports and Olympics.
