A Nigerian national has been found guilty of contravening the Medical Act and he risks going to jail for eight months if he defaults in paying a D4,000 court fine imposed on him by a magistrates’ court.
James Lucky Osawe was recently arraigned before magistrate B.Y Camara at Banjul Magistrates’ Court for importing medicine into The Gambia without fulfilling the requirements contained in Medical Act.
The medicines, intended for distribution and sale, were intercepted at the Gambia Post Office in July of this year but would now be confiscated to the Medical Board as per section 13 of the Laws of The Gambia.
The verdict, which followed Osawe’s own plea of guilty, was handed down by magistrate B.Y. Camara.
