Man Gets 12 Months for Escaping from Custody

Thursday, January 3, 2008

Ousman Nyass, who was at the time of his trial serving a five-year jail term for felony, will have 12 months added up to that for escaping from lawful custody.

He was last week convicted and sentenced by Magistrate Kayeodi of the Banjul Magistrates’ Court without any alternative of court fine.

The police charge sheet indicated that on the 10 December 2007, while serving a jail term at Mile II Central Prison, Nyass claimed to have fallen sick and was consequently taken to RVTH where he effected his escape.
