Momodou Lamin Sonko, alias Boto Sonko, the 3rd accused person in the alleged State House theft case, has been granted D1M bail bond. The bail bond was applied for on 1st February 2008 at the High Court by his defense counsel, Lawyer Antuman Gaye, which the state did not object to. He was consequently granted bail in the sum of D 1M with a Gambian surety.
It would be recalled that Momodou Lamin Sonko has been charged alongside Superintendent Manlafi Sanyang, Officer in Charge of government vehicles at State House, and Lt. Bakary Camara, a bodyguard to the President, for the offences of conspiracy to commit felony, theft and economic crime.
In the three counts, the three accused persons stand charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, to wit stealing; stealing a motor vehicle with the registration number BJL 4063B, property of the Gambia government and causing a loss to the economy of the republic of The Gambia by stealing a motor vehicle with reg. number BJL 4063B.
Few days after the discovery of the alleged malfeasance, an Italian national named Domenic Fideli was also arrested and charged with the offence of stealing the same motor vehicle, property of Kanilai farm, on 10th January 2008 at the Licenses department of The Gambia Police Force.
