Subscribers of the Gambia Cellular Comapny (Gamcel) are currently experiencing a poor Gamcel network access in the Central River Region North due to daily interruption of a foreign GSM network called Alize, from Senegal.
The subscribers, majority of whom are with Gamcel, complained that for the past months they enjoyed no quality Gamcel network services due to the daily interruption of this foreign GSM network.
Due to the poor Gamcel network, the situation has forced most subcribers to avert from using the national GSM provider to other GSM providers in the country.
One Lamin Ceesay of Karantaba Dutokoto confirmed that it has almost been five months since the situation began. He said most times, their cell phones face total network failure when in the process of making calls or shortly after making calls. “This situation has frustrated me because some times i will receive international call and the Alize network will appear and interrupt my communication. I think Gamcel should do something to maintain its customers rather than loosing them. Even though I preferred Gamcel than any other cellular company, but the situation has force me to subscribe to other GSM operators,” he said.
According to Baba-Galleh Barry, another Gamcel subscriber at Demba Kally village, three quarter of their villagers are using Gamcel but the fluctuation and appearing of this foreign network on their cell phones, economically affects and caused them a lot. He suggested that Gamcel should put in place a regular measure to solve this current situation.
He called on the Gamcel management to intervene otherwise they will switch-over to Comium or Africell depending on which network is accessible in the area.
Janko Ndow, alkalo of Sami Toniataba also corroborate that they have been encountering the same situation for the past months. He stressed that a possible solution should be taken by Gamcel to help customers from this condition.
Haruna Ganno, Bukary Mballow, Kundo Jawo and Sireh Touray equally complained of the situation and appealed to Gamcel authorities to salvage them.
Efforts has been made to reach to the Chief of Sami District, Alhagie Morro Jawla to comment on the matter but to no avail.
When Daily Observer contacted the Gamcel Customer Care yesterday, an anynomous officer who was on duty confirmed that they have been receiving the complaints from the CRR subscribers, but called on them to forward their cell phone numbers to Gamcel so that they can disconnect the roaming facilities which causes the interruption so as to enable them only receive their home network.
