Friday, June 13, 2008
Lorenz Rubbinacci , Head Coach of the U-20 team, has said that thetest match with Senegalslated for June 21stis very important to the team as it will comform to a high international standard and will expose the boys.He said this will give them more confidence to face Mauritania on June 28 in the 16thAfrican Youth Championship in 2009 in Rwanda.

He said the FA have invited players like Sainey Nyassi from New England Revolution in the US and a new midfielder Muhammed Bah from French division side Rennes, who was expected in Banjul last evening, to add up in building a formidable side.

He said his biggest challenge will be to ensure that he will maintain the current record of the national U-20 team.

“ We started building the team a month ago with the help of the coaching staff and I am very happy with this venture. We need more support. We have succeeded in building a compact team. This is the first step and now we are focusing on the offence. This was why I requested the test match from the FA who responded positively ,” he explained

Lorenzo said Mauritania are a good team and are used to playing on artificial turf.“Based on the video tapes of the team, I can see that they are a hungry side and are very fast in their movements,” he added.

He was quick to add however that the team is looking forward to picking up its three points in Banjul come June 28th2008.
