Two British philanthropists, Daniel Hendricks and Denvill Hendricks, on Tuesday, donated D18,000 to the members of the Campaign Against Rural Urban Drift (Carud), at a presentation ceremony held at Kanuma village, Lower Niumi District, North Bank Region.

The money was received on behalf of the group by the district chairman, Kanuma Branch, Mr Yaya Manneh. The money is meant to facilitate the roofing and finishing of Carud’s poultry house in Kanuma village.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Nfamara Camara, the secretary-general of Carud, deliberated on the achievemments registered by the executive and also highlighted the background history of the project.

In his welcoming remarks, the programme director of Carud, Mustapha Fatty, encouraged the youths to be committed and thanked the donors for the benevolent gesture. He assured the donors that the money will be put to good use. According to Mr. Fatty, Carud’s intervention will not only reduce the unemployment rate but it will also curb the effects of crime and congestion in the urban areas.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Digga Harris, a British national and the chairman of Carud, thanked the youths of Kanuma for their foresight, contributions and participation since the starting of the project.

Daniel Hendricks, speaking on behalf of the donors, promised that they will continue to complement Carud’s efforts and the government of The Gambia, to ensure a better future for Gambian youths. He promised to come back to The Gambia with his team in October this year.

Carud was registered in 2001 as a charitable organisation that aims at motivating, encouraging and engaging the unemployed youths to venture into agriculture and other income generating activities.
