Gambian Dickory Jawo, a FIFA-badged assistant referee, has been selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to officiate in the forthcoming African Under 17 Championship starting this week in Algeria.

Jawo is the only Gambian to be selected for the two-week event and he would join fifteen other referees and assistant referees selected from other country’s for the biennial championship that will feature the Gambia and seven other African nations to compete for the coveted title and the four available World Cup spots.

The Gambia referee chief, Badou Jasseh, expressed delight at the selection of assistant referee Dickory Jawo.  He added: “it shows the respect and trust the continental football’s governing body has in Gambian referees.”
