Thursday, February 19, 2009
In his first appearance in court on the Jambur’s arson case, Lawyer Borry Touray, has asked the police to re-check the section under which the accused persons were charged with.

Counsel Touray who, yesterday announced his representation in court before Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Brikama Magistrate court said the charge sheet before the court is not clear as to what kind of offence(s) the accused persons were charged with. He said the accused persons were charged under wrong section noting that they should be charged under Section 306 instead of 305.

Lawyer Touray went further to state that the evidence of the Jambur Alkalo only mentioned curtain and carpet. He urged the court to re-direct the police to amend the charge sheet in the interest of justice in both sides. At that juncture, the case was adjourned to 24 February, to allow the prosecution to reply to the submission of the counsel.

It could be recalled that at the beginning of the case, Lawyer Badou Conteh was the only counsel in the defence bench but now Counsel Touray has joined the defence side. The IGP was represented by ASP Inspector Samateh and assisted by Sergeant Samurah.
