Scorpions Wow Thrills Fans

The new look Gambian Scorpion’s entertained and thrilled football lovers when they played two friendly matches with the zonal selections on Wednesday 24th December 2008 at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium and the under 17’s on Friday 26th at the Brikama Mini Stadium.

Both matches were played in an ecstatic atmosphere and enjoyed the loud euphoria of singing of the Scorpion’s Fan Club who cheered up the darling scorpions at every spectacular action performed by both teams.

The zonal selections, who take on responsibility and never shy away from the so determined Scorpions, put up a very solid performance.

In the 17th minute of the first half the Gambian Mustapha Sarr scored for the Scorpions with a well taken low shot that past the zonal goalkeeper.

As play resumed in the second half Alagie Fatajo levelled the score to 1-1 when his unexpected long-range volley left the goalkeeper.

Both teams put up great efforts to take the lead but to no avail. At the end of the game the score stood at 1-1.

In the other game the under -17 team that will represent The Gambia in Algiers lost to their big brothers by 3-2 in Brikama on the 26th December 2008.

These games were organised by GFA to raise funds to be given as charity. Many players expressed their satisfaction over the way the matches were conducted. Noting that the gate taking is purposely for humanitarian gesture.
