All eyes would turn on Gambia this month, as the smallest West African State would be hosting two international sporting events at the same time.
Despite been the venue of the International Olympic Committee [IOC] Women and Sports Festival from the 17th to the 25th November 2006, the Gambia has been given the mandate to host the Daimler Chrysler Sports Festival from the 17th to the 19th November 2006.
According to the Executive Director of the Gambia National Olympic Committee [GNOC] George Gomez the festival is an international programme organised and funded by the OlymAfrica Foundation.
He added that for the Gambia, a two day training for potential managers of Sports Centers and Mini-Stadiums would be held on the 17th and 18th November 2006 with participants drawn from all over the country.
He stated that 24 participants are expected to take part in the training and Mansour Samb of OlymAfrica Foundation would conduct the course.
“The 19th would be dedicated to a” 7 A side” Football tournament in Serekunda East for 12 - 15 years old children for all Zones from Banjul to Kartong,” said Mr. Gomez.
He revealed that the participating zones are Banjul, Serekunda East, West, Bakau, Lamin, Sukuta, Brikama Gunjur and Kartong.
“Each zone would present a team of 12- 13 years old and another one for 14-15 years children while the host Serekunda East would present two teams in each category,” he pointed out.
The tournament would be co-ordinated by Pa Suwareh Faye and Mariama Sallah.
