The management of the Katchically crocodile pool in collaboration with the Makasutu Wildlife Trust has published a book entitled “Bio-diversity Guide to Katchically Sacred Crocodile Pool” following an intensive one week conducted survey and mapping out of the country’s main crocodile pools.
In a press conference held in one the main tourist attractions in Bakau last Sunday, Malang DK Jambang, the author of the book and Assistant Director of Makasutu Wildlife Trust said the book was published after a one week survey of the Katchically crocodile pool crowning the training of 3 of the pool’s staff. Mr Jambang also disclosed that the the process of mapping out the crocodile pool, was extended to the various types of trees, mammals, amphibian and reptiles.
According to him, the initiative will help to give a good insight to visitors of Katchically sacred crocodile pool and museum as it covers the historical setting, geographical location and habitats of various animals around the vicinity of the pool. He however, noted that to ensure full coverage of the entire biodiversity of the pool, a survey of at least one year must be conducted. He therefore expressed hope that additional publication on biodiversity in Katchically will be carried out in the future.
Paul Webb, a teacher and proof reader of the guide book emphasized the importance of biodiversity in human nature and spoke of the need to conserve it. He applauded the publication of the guidebook which he described as a vital guide for tourists and other visitors of the pool.
Dodou Bojang, the pool keeper thanked Makasutu Wildlife trust for their collaboration in having the book published. Hassoum Ceesay of Guaranty Trust, who chaired the press conference, also expressed similar sentiments
