APRC Supporters at Bakau New Town / Fajara Ward Divided

Tuesday, November 13, 2007

As the local government Elections are just at the corner, APRC supporters at Bakau New Town / Fajara ward have their candidates for the councillorship.

Four years age, Bakary Darboe, commonly known as B.B. Darboe, was elected as the councillor for Bakau New Town / Fajara ward. Ousman Senghore was also interested in the councillorship but he withdrew, allowing B.B. Darboe to be selected.

But this time around, some APRC supporters expressed unhappiness about B.B. Darboe, the former councillor, who once again, according to them, has shown interest in the councillorship. They accused B.B. Darboe of doing nothing for the ward. They alleged that the former councillor was given D100, 000 to do some work in the ward but instead he spent a little amount on some gravel which was not even enough for the road for which it was meant and that they did not know where the balance had gone to.

They further showed their anger that the former councillor was convicted of stealing at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, and as a result, they said, he is not qualified to be their councillor.

They threatened that if the APRC selection committee fails to select Ousman Senghore as the APRC candidate for the councillorship, they would vote for the opposition.
