Nisa Football Championship Immigration wins opener

Immigration Department on Sunday defeated Gamtel 2-0 in the opening match of the annual Inter-Department Football Championship, organised by the National Inter-departmental Sports Association (NISA) at the Independence Stadium, Bakau.

Lamin Barrow put Immigration forward on 25th minutes after being set up by striker Musa Saidykhan before doubling the advantage on the 70th minutes. The defending champions, Gamtel fought back in a bid to level the scoreline but the Immigration side will not give any breathing space.

Sunday’s opening ceremony was marked by a march-past by the participating companies from the Daily Observer Junction to the Independence Stadium.

Addressing the teeming crowd at the Independence Stadium, Colonel Lang Tombong Tamba, Chief of Defence Staff of Gambia Armed Forces, who also doubles as President NISA paid tribute to the participating companies for their participation, saying without the companies there would be no tourney of such. Col Tamba said NISA aims to promote cordial relations among Gambian institutions, through the medium of sports; and non-Gambian companies through sports.

Col Tamba said through sports, different institutions in the country have come together as one family He said the association has planned to include other sporting disciplines apart from football hence the name change from football association to sports association.
