Assistant Supretendent Sawaneh, the former Station Officer (SO) of Bakau Police Station last Thursday, ended his testimony in the ongoing criminal case involving Dodou Kasa Jatta and seven accused presided over by Senior Magistrate Abdoulie Mbacke of the Kanifing Magistrate Court.

ASP Sawaneh, during his cross-examination by the defence counsel, said he was not present at Bakau Bantankoto, when the incident happened. He confirmed that he did not see Cherno Ndure Jarju holding an iron bar in an attempt to hit Sirreh Jammeh, one of the complainants.

He narrated that he did receive a complain from Sirreh Jammeh and Sam Debois on 27th June, 2006 saying the accused persons were arrested by his men.

He added that upon their arrival at Jatta Kunda in Bakau, they were obstructed by family members. ASP Sawaneh continued that he and two of his men forced their way into the compound, while some armed para-military officers were stationed outside the compound gate.

He further stated that there was a big crowd at the compound gate, but he could not estimate the number of people. He said some of the accused people were within the crowd. Sawaneh noted that Isatou Jawara’s action at the scene tantamount to her arrest.

ASP Sawaneh told the court that Dodou Kasa Jatta was not arrested in connection with the complain lodged by Sam Debois and Sirreh Jammeh, but he surrendered himself to the police because of an advice from his counsel.
