The first prosecution witness in the trial of the former Bakau UDP candidate over allegation of being found in possession of falsified banknotes last week testified before magistrate E.F.Mbai at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court.

The witness, Nfansu Saho, is a police officer attached to Yundum Police Station.

In his testimony, Saho informed the court that he was on duty at Yundum Police Station when Babucarr Suwa, a Ghanain, was brought in following his apprehension with counterfeited Gambian banknotes in Busumbala.

According to officer Saho, a subsequent police investigation led them to Nfamara Bojang in whose vehicle they found some fake dalasi notes .He said they encountered Nfamara on the Coastal Road.

“He was then arrested and taken to Yundum Police Station. When searched, some fake money, including D100 note and 89 fake D50 notes were found on him,” he told the court. The counterfeited banknotes were tendered as pieces of evidence and were admitted and marked as exhibits.

When cross-examined by defense counsel Lawyer Darboe as to how many bogus banknotes were found on Bojang, Saho replied that it was altogether 54. When further asked about the whereabouts of Babucarr Suwa, officer Saho said he could not establish that. The case was then adjourned to April 17 for the continuation of the cross-examination.
