The Gambia Volleyball Association has qualified to the All Africa Games to be held this year in Algiers, Algeria, after the successful hosting of this year’s Zone II volleyball tournament in Banjul, The Gambia.
The Gambia Volleyball team which comprises both male and female categories, qualified to the Africa Games after securing second position in the just concluded Zone II tournament. The Senegal took first position and Guinea Conakry captured the third position.
In an interview with Pointsports, the President of the Gambia Volleyball Association (GVBA), Mr. Musa Cassa Taal, said the performance of the Gambian team was very good and satisfactory as the team put up excellent performance and displayed fantastic skills during the tournament.
Mr. Taal thanked all those who contributed in one way or another to make the tournament a success, singling out the Banjul City Council, GNOC, and the Secretary of State for Interior and among others.
The GVBA boss however said: “I was very much disappointed with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the National Sports Council for not responding to such an important occasion hosted by The Gambia, to play their role as host - even to buy a pair of socks for the national team, which is a big shame. I have to use my own initiative to take a club jersey to salvage the Gambia from a big embarrassment.”
He added that the sports council should be changed because they could not play the cards well.
“The focus of the sports council is just selfish interest, wasting government’s revenue,” he fumed.
