As Fresh Charges Surface

There appears to be no end in sight to the legal nightmare of the proprietor of Boto Construction Company, Mr. Momodou Lamin Sonko, as the state has come up with more charges against him.
The accused appeared before the Banjul Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where he was charged with two counts of stealing.

According to the details of count one of the offence, Momodou Lamin Sonko between 2001 and June 2007 and on various dates and diverse places in Banjul and beyond, stole D1,593,307 being proceeds realised from the leasing of construction equipment to M.A. Kharafi and Sons Ltd. but failed to render same to the owner thereof.
According to the particulars of the offence of count two, Momodou Lamin Sonko, between 2001 and June 2007 on various dates and diverse places in Banjul and other places in The Gambia, stole $121,665.35 being proceeds realised from the leasing of construction equipment to Kharafi and Sons Ltd. but failed to render same to the owner thereof.

When the charges were read to Mr. Sonko, he refuted the allegations and was, as a result, given bail in the sum of D2m with two Gambians, who had to satisfy the bail requirements, as sureties. The case resumes on December 10.

It would be recalled that Mr. Momodou Lamin Sonko was earlier this year discharged of the offence of stealing by the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.
