Court slams three-month sentence on ram thief

Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Senior Magistrate Abdoulie Mbackeh of the Kanifing Magistrates Court, on Tuesday, convicted and sentenced one Abdoulie Faye to three months imprisonment without an option of a fine for stealing a ram valued at D6,000, which belonged to one Sainey Bojang of Bakau Sama Kunda.

In his plea for mitigation, Abdoulie Faye begged the court for mercy. He told the court that he is a first time offender and that he would not repeat the offence.

But his plea failed to gain the mercy of the court, leading to his conviction. Senior Magistrate Mbackeh told the accused that he is an able man who must not take stealing as his profession but rather venture into gainful employment.

He lamented that stealing is becoming rampant, especially among youth, saying that this is a cause of concern.
“Many choose criminality as a way of life and don't want to sweat for anything,” he said.
