RVTH gets medical boost

Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH) on Friday 9 March 2007 received a donation of 40-feet container, full of medical items, from the Committee of Banjul Muslim Elders (CBME).

The donated items included Hospital beds, Matresses, Wheel-Chairs, Examination beds, Air matresses, Computers, Tables and other valuable medical items.

The donation was made possible through Mellemfolke Femirke, a Charitable Non-Government Organisation (NGO), and comprising Gambians resident in Denmark, led by Mr. Samba Godar.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Alhaji Abdou Faal, Chairman for the Committee of Banjul Muslim Elders (CBME), expressed delight and sincere appreciation, on behalf of the committee to the management of RVTH, for accepting the donated items. He expressed hope that the donated medical items will help the hospital towards realising it aims in making The Gambia a healthy nation as cherished by the Gambian leader, President Yahya Jammeh, and the Department of State for Health and Social Welfare. Mr Faal described health as the foundation of any sustainable human development.

Deputising for Dr Tamsir Mbowe Secretary of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Malick Njie, Chief Medical Officer, at the RVTH also expressed similar sentiments of gratitude and sincere appreciation to the Committee of Banjul Muslim Elders for the gesture. He described the donation as timely and as a true humanitarian gesture which, according to him, will greatly help the hospital in its efforts to deliver quality and affordable health service to all Gambians and non-Gambians alike.

Yankuba Ceesay, Desk Officer for Religious Affairs at the Department of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs, delivered the vote of thanks, on behalf of his Department. Imam Ratib of Banjul, Alhaji Chernor Kah handed over the donated items, on behalf of the Committee of Banjul Muslim Elders, to Dr Malick Njie, Chief Medical Officer of RVTH. The occasion was attended by members of Banjul Muslim Elders Committee, Alhaji Alieu Mboge Secretary-General (SG), Dr Ebrima Samba Vice-Chairman of the Committee and Senior Government officials.
