The Gambia Bar Association, on Thursday, held a valedictory ceremony, in honour of the late Justice Wallace Godfrey Grante of the High court, who passed away on 1st December 2006, in Northampton, England.
Members of the Gambia Bar Association and other members of the judiciary paid respect to the late High Court Judge at the Corenthia Atlantic Hotel, who was interred in Banjul on December 18.
Speaking at the well-attended valediction, Ms Amie Bensouda, President of the Gambia Bar Association, gave an overview of the biography of the late Justice Grante. She described Justice Grante as a “kind, honest, transparent, frank, humble, passionate and socially comfortable gentleman, as well as a highly organised and efficient legal practitioner” in the history of The Gambia.
Ms Bensouda highlighted that Justice Grante had loved the law and had a keen sense of justice, which shined through in his decisions at all time. She then offered prayers on behalf the Gambia Bar Association, to the Almighty Allah to grant him eternal blessings and for him to rest in perfect peace.
Sourahata B. Semega Janneh, a member of the Gambia Bar Association and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, described the late Justice Grante as a “good, wise and humble gentleman”, who had worshiped the course of justice in the interest of humanity.
Mr Janneh expounded on the importance to live a fruitful life on this earth. He said Justice Grante lived his life on the course of humanity, saying he was devoted to the law.
Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, a senior member of the Gambia Bar Association, described the late Justice Grante as a true humanitarian, who had made positive impact in the history of legal profession in The Gambia.
Dr Fredrick Old Field, representative from the family of Justice Grante, expressed gratitude to the Gambia Bar Association for organising the event.
Neneh Cham- Chongan, Assistant Secretary of the Gambia Bar Association, chaired the occasion.
