The Islamic Cultural Centre for Women and Children (ICCWC) in Banjul clocks 10 years. To celebrate, the centre will hold a week-long programme and conference from May 27th to June 2nd at the Corinthia Atlantic Hotel in Banjul.
Speaking to the Daily Observer, Aja Maimuna Savage, President of the centre, said that the ICCWC was established in 1997 for the propagation of Islam amongst Muslim women and children in The Gambia, with the support and assistance from the late Muhammad Yadalieu Savage who served as an Imam for 35 years at the Allen Street Mosque in Banjul.
According to her, the aim of the conference is to bring together Muslims from The Gambia and Senegal in order to know each other better and also to motivate Muslim women by putting more emphasis in the way they practice Islam, noting that most of the preachers in the conference will be women.
