Despite playing at home, The Gambia Ports Authority FC could not use their home advantage to conquer the Ivorian side, ES Bingerville in the first leg of the 5th edition of CAF Confederation Cup Championship played over the weekend.
ES Bingerville took an early lead in the first half through Joelziz in the 35th minute sealing a 1-0 victory in Banjul.
GPA could not level the scores after numerous opportunities presented themselves.
Speaking to Pointsports, the head coach of GPA, Ebrima Cham-Joof expressed satisfaction with the performance of his boys.
He expressed confidence that his players would certainly perform to expectation when they travel to Abidjan for the return leg.
He called on all Gambians to continue their support and prayers for the team so that they can win overwhelmingly in Abidjan Kwame Vincent, Coach of Ente Sportive De Bingerville, said, “ I was impressed by the GPA Football club’s performance; they are physically good and they played good football even though they missed several chances.”
He said his team has not had much exposure, that it was six years since they came to Division 1, and further that the team was formed in 1995 and never won either FA or the Champions league.
“We will work harder to qualify in two weeks in Ivory Coast,” he assured.
Gambia Ports Authority FC will travel to Abidjan to play the return leg on the weekend of February 29, March 1-2.
